[TIDK] 84 – Severed Finger

As he listened to it, Isaac wore a cynical smile. He then opened the door.

As soon as Isaac entered, Abel shouted. “You! How did you educate your sister?”

“...”

Isaac observed the enraged Abel, unmoving.

“I told you, it’s that girl’s problem since birth! Always determined to ruin this family...”

While Abel yelled, Isaac took off his glasses, shaded in black. Abel Crimson, who looked him in the eye, soon grinned.

It was as if, in his anger, he found delight at the sight before him.

“I heard that girl made you look like that,” Abel smirked.

Isaac looked around the Oval Office instead of answering.

It had been fifteen days since he saw the moon. Isaac hadn’t visited for that long, but he could see that the office was in a mess.

Originally his father’s office, this place had always been messy. Cleaning an area where servants would not be allowed to touch anything was difficult. Isaac turned his head towards the wall where his parents’ portraits hung. He manoeuvred his hand, but there was no portrait there.

Abel’s hand trembled as Isaac moved as if he could see ahead. He signalled the lawyer he was with to be quiet and leave, then picked up a paper cutter and hid it behind his back.

“What are you searching for?”

“Wasn’t there a portrait of my parents here?” Isaac tilted his head.

“I put it away,” Abel replied.

“Where is it?”

“I’ll let you know when you can properly take over this family later. Isaac, are you seeing anything?”

Isaac replied to what he said.

“I can see. Scarlett used good medicine.”

When Isaac turned around, Abel Crimson tried to put the paper cutter to his neck. But as soon as Isaac turned, he grabbed Abel Crimson’s arm and stopped him, flipping their position and drawing the blade along Abel’s neck.

He spoke calmly.

“I can hear you.”

“W, what?”

“The sound of the paper cutter you’re holding.”

After he lost his sight, his hearing became enhanced. Isaac could tell many things apart. He took the paper cutter from Abel’s hand as smoothly as he would have taken it from a child’s.

“I heard you breathing fast because you were afraid to kill me.”

Isaac brought Abel’s hand in front of Isaac’s eyes, the one with which Abel tried to stab Isaac. Then he held the paper cutter to Abel’s index finger.

He sliced.

“Argh!”

Even though it was a paper cutter, it was sharp enough to cut anything other than paper.

Abel’s scream roared throughout the mansion. He clasped his hand and struggled.

“Doctor! Call the doctor! Call the police, now!”

He was hysterical

Isaac looked down at Abel as he screamed.

“You’re on my side, and I’m on your side.”

Abel, beating Scarlett to force Isaac to take his side, remained in Isaac’s mind.

Isaac soon smiled like an angel.

“I’ve always thought about it. If it were the other way around, would Scarlett have hit you? But there’s no way. She’s like a saint, unlike me, so she probably won’t hit you. Even if she’s beaten to death.”

Abel managed to reach the door, holding his hand, but Isaac made it first. He hung his cane on the hook of both doors. Isaac, who grew up with abuse from Abel, looked back at him.

Abel shuddered. “You, you, you!” He bellowed.

Abel shook his fist, and he punched Isaac.

Isaac could have easily dodged him, but he didn’t.

Isaac’s cheeks, which had grown pale without sunlight, quickly turned red.

He wrapped his hands around his burning cheeks, recalling the sound of his uncle hitting little Scarlett.

He didn’t know if she covered her mouth with her hands or if Abel blocked it, but he could never hear her screaming or crying then.

Isaac sighed, took off the cuff link Scarlett had meticulously attached and put it in his inside pocket.

Isaac, who regained his sight that day, realised a lot. The fact that Scarlett put a nice cufflink on his clothes or that the clothes he was wearing were better than Scarlett’s.

The man named Isaac Crimson was just a ghoul that had been supporting Scarlett Crimson’s childhood.
