[TIDK] 83 – Unpleasantly Perfect Man

Although, when Hughan was facing Viktor Dumfelt, he could somewhat understand Yuli Irène’s mind.

Viktor was an unpleasantly perfect man.

Regardless, Hughan had become the person whom Yuli Irène entrusted. This person would, after all, become his brother-in-law and the Crown Prince.

He quickly rose to the post of a royal police officer. As the second son of the Hunter family, he became so powerful that he surpassed the Hunter family’s eldest son – as society had it. But if he messed this up, he would be dropped by Yuli Irène. Hughan Hunter was, unfortunately, dispensable.

Hughan flopped on the chair, leaned back, and wrapped his face with his hands.

“Ha. Like a pathetic dog,” Hughan muttered. 

At that moment, a knock resounded in the room.

“Sir, this is Hylum Pitt,” the voice came.

“Ah, come on in,” Hughan got up.

He was worried that Hylum might have betrayed him. Just as Hylum Pitt appeared, Hughan gestured satisfactorily. Soon a skinny, tall young man came inside.

This person was second-degree royal police officer Hylum Pitt, who worked at Scarlett Crimson’s watch store under the name of Andrei Hamilton.

Hylum Pitt, dressed in a suit for the first time in a while, stood with his back rigid.

“I’m here to report something,” he spoke indifferently.

“Scarlett Crimson?” 

Hughan raised a brow, prompting Hylum to continue.

“No, it’s about Isaac Crimson.”

Andrei continued with a calm expression.

“The police from a nearby police station have arrived at the Crimson mansion.”

Shortly after Scarlett left for Dumfelt’s mansion to find something for Nina’s auction, Isaac headed for Crimson Street.

What kind of child was Scarlett? 

Isaac had seen her until she was thirteen but wasn’t mainly fond of her.

Scarlett was a naive child. At the mansion, she walked calmly at the nagging of her parents and ran around the house, making a fuss when they left the house.

Abel had fired her nanny as soon as their parents died, and she always liked Scarlett more than Isaac. Isaac was a little disappointed when he was young, but now that he thought about it, it was inevitable that she was more interested in children who laughed and liked people.

Before the death of their parents, the brother and sister were not at each other’s throats, nor were they particularly affectionate. But everything changed after the carriage accident.

Thirteen was a young age, but catastrophic events made adult-like thinking possible—Isaac, who lost all his light at that age and became trapped in the attic.

He noticed that most people in the world followed the logic of power, not the warm heart that their parents emphasised.

After Arnold said he would sue Scarlett sooner or later, Isaac calculated his next move.

The siblings could not fairly beat Abel Crimson. Their uncle was years beyond them, had power, and unlike them, mere children, credibility. He had already built many connections, and above all, the world’s law was unfair. In the past, a twelve-year-old abused girl had nothing to protect her. He knew he couldn’t beat those who pushed everything by force.

From Scarlett’s watch store, Isaac headed straight to the Crimson mansion. 

It had been a while since Isaac had entered the Crimson mansion.

When he appeared after a long absence, the servants whispered and looked at him curiously.

They had perhaps taken his absence as a sign that he would never endeavour to return.

Isaac ignored their gazes and headed for Abel Crimson’s office. He navigated using his cane with familiarity.

He stood at the door and heard Abel Crimson’s angry rant inside.

“The damn girl who should be in hell! She’s creating a goddamn problem for us. How in hell are we supposed to manage this? I’ve already taken whatever that family had, but it’s not enough!”
