[TIDK] 121 – The Allure of Crazy Women

Though Scarlett continued to skate forward, her gaze kept darting back to Viktor, searching for clues to decipher his intentions. There was an enigmatic quality about him that left her puzzled.

After spending a considerable amount of time on the ice, Scarlett finally mustered the courage to broach the subject that had been lingering in her mind. "So," she began tentatively, "why have you been so kind to me lately? What do you want?"

Viktor met her gaze with an inscrutable expression. "You'll find out soon enough. I want to be with you again," he revealed, his voice carrying a hint of longing.

Slightly taken aback by his straightforwardness, Scarlett struggled to maintain a straight face. "Is it because it's convenient for you to love me?" she asked, her tone laced with scepticism.

A genuine smile played at the corners of Viktor's lips as he responded. "If you despise that word, perhaps I should have found a more romantic way to express it."

Unconsciously, Scarlett couldn't help but smile at his reply, her guarded facade slipping for a moment. With determination in her voice, she declared, "No, I won't let it be that easy."

Viktor's warm smile remained unmasked and genuine. With every interaction, he learned more about Scarlett, each revelation fuelling his desire to make her fall in love with him once again.

In his heart, Viktor had never truly believed that he would be able to win her back someday. But with each passing moment, that belief began to waver.

As the long December slowly gave way to the arrival of the new year, the capital of Salantier found itself blanketed under a hefty layer of snow. Despite the wintry conditions, there was a certain calmness in the air as the absence of strong winds made the cold more bearable.

However, as February approached, the winds regained their strength, cutting through the rising temperatures and causing discomfort to the city's inhabitants. Yet, amidst the bitter cold, the capital of Salantier sought solace in a festival held in January when the weather was milder.

In the midst of this winter backdrop, Scarlett let out a deep sigh, her breath visible in the frigid air. "Why am I supposed to do this?" she pondered aloud, her voice laced with frustration.

Liv, a supportive presence by her side, gently slid a pair of gloves onto Scarlett's hands. "Everyone on 7th Avenue unanimously wants you to be the Snow Queen at the New Year's Parade," she explained, her tone carrying a sense of reverence.

Scarlett's brows furrowed as she expressed her desire. "But I want to be the queen of spring..."

Liv paused, studying Scarlett's face for a moment. "There's something about you that radiates winter," she remarked softly.

Perplexed, Scarlett sought clarification. "What is it that looks like winter?" she questioned a hint of injustice in her voice.

As Liv skilfully applied makeup to Scarlett's face, a feeling of discontent brewed within her. The situation seemed unfair, and Scarlett couldn't help but feel a twinge of resentment.

From January 1st to January 7th, the grand New Year's festival engulfed the city, filling the streets with vibrant celebrations. During this time, 7th Avenue, always eager to embrace tradition, would select two queens to embody the beloved Salantier legends—the Snow Queen and the Spring Queen.

As the parade made its way through the city, the Snow Queen took the lead, her regal presence captivating the onlookers. With each step, visitors showered her with confetti made from intricately cut coloured paper, creating a whimsical path reminiscent of a blooming flower garden. The spectators, their hearts yearning for both winter's enchantment and the arrival of spring, eagerly watched the procession unfold.

In the realm of Salantier, the winter festival held deep significance, symbolising the aspirations and hopes of the people. Each year, aspiring candidates auditioned for the roles of the Snow Queen and the Spring Queen. Many of these hopefuls were supported by seasoned theatre actors and talented ballerinas seeking recognition and acclaim. However, ever since Scarlett's arrival on 7th Avenue, the minds of the community had already determined the right actor who'd embody the Snow Queen. With overwhelming consent and support, Scarlett's path to the role was paved.

Amidst the preparations, Scarlett shared a small piece of news with Liv, her voice filled with anticipation. "My brother will be arriving later," she revealed.

Liv's eyes brightened with delight upon hearing this. "Really?" she exclaimed.

A nod escaped Scarlett's lips, causing Liv to straighten her posture quickly. "Don't move your head," she cautioned, her focus unwavering.

As Scarlett's head remained fixed in position, Liv meticulously readjusted her white-haired wig, ensuring it sat perfectly on her head. It wasn't long before Isaac, Scarlett's brother, made his appearance.
