191 – Are We Going To See The Sea?
Viktor knew that if he waited, Scarlett would eventually lose her memory again and return to his side. Especially in situations with high stress like this, she tended to lose her memory regularly.
As he expected, Scarlett, under immense stress, headed back to the Dumfelt mansion before a full day had even passed since she stormed out in anger. Given her departure in frustration, Viktor was confident that just by looking at her expression, he could confirm she had forgotten about the divorce.
He recalled Scarlett yelling at him as she left, “It’s not going well. It doesn’t go as I want.”
If he hadn’t been certain she would return to him, he wouldn’t have let Scarlett leave.
Once back home, Scarlett claimed to be tired and slept throughout the day. After sleeping for a long time, she woke up, the accumulated fatigue of living a chaotic life finally catching up to her. She noticed Viktor reading a book by her side, and her surprise jolted her upright.
“What are you doing here?”
“Waiting. You slept for quite a while.”
“Me?”
Scarlett blinked in astonishment and pulled the blanket over herself. Soon, her face turned red, and she asked him, “Is there something I should be doing?”
Viktor closed his book and said, “Let’s go on a date.”
“A… date?”
Scarlett blinked, and Viktor extended his hand to her. As Scarlett got out of bed, Viktor spoke.
“We’ll be taking a boat. Even though the weather has cleared, the sea still has a breeze, so dress warmly when you come out.”
“W-We’re going right now?”
“Yeah.”
“Just a moment… You mean we’re going on a date?”
“That’s right.”
Upon his response, Scarlett quickly got up and rushed to the dressing room. Candice, who followed her, looked horrified at the chaos in the overturned dressing room and exclaimed, “Miss… No, Madam! Please calm down!”
“What should I wear? What should I wear? A date… We’re going on a date. Taking a boat.”
Scarlett was so excited that she had trouble putting her words together. Candice calmly retrieved a dress and said, “Here, this one.”
“Did I have a dress like this?”
“What are you saying? You wore this on your second anniversary.”
“Second anniversary?”
Scarlett tilted her head, and Candice hesitated before explaining again, “It’s your second wedding anniversary.”
At her words, Scarlett looked embarrassed and said, “You mean our first anniversary?”
“Uh… yes?”
Candice, flustered by Scarlett’s confusion, quickly spoke as if nothing had happened, “Yes, that’s right. Your first anniversary.”
“Did I wear a dress like this for our first anniversary?”
“It was a backup dress. Don’t you remember we had it made just in case?”
“Well… now that you mention it, it does seem familiar.”
Scarlett nodded her head. Despite the time and effort she invested in preparing for the date, her expression still held a hint of dissatisfaction. Finally dressed up, Scarlett asked, “Is it really okay?”
Looking down at her dress, she inquired, and Candice raised her voice, “It looks beautiful!”
“Really?”
“Ugh, you’re already beautiful. How much more beautiful do you want to be? Hurry and go!”
“But I don’t think it’s that great…”
“Do you keep saying that?”
Scarlett felt insecure about her appearance and looked at herself in the mirror. While her parents had considered her the most adorable being in the world when she was younger, she had grown up constantly grappling with her self-esteem since she turned twelve.
This was the first time she was going out to the sea with Viktor. No, it was the first time they had a private outing. Scarlett mustered the courage to step out only after making sure she was properly dressed. She didn’t want to make any mistakes on their first date.
She walked down the stairs gracefully. Viktor, waiting in the lobby, looked at Scarlett and immediately smiled, saying, “You’re dazzling.”
“Is it okay?”
Scarlett was wearing a dress that was slightly bluer than the navy uniform Viktor had on. The dress was a deep blue, adorned with countless sparkling crystals.
Viktor said, “Those crystals were brought from Mrs Paradis’s store.”
“Huh? Mrs Paradis?”
Scarlett tilted her head in confusion. The pre-divorce Scarlett didn’t know who Mrs Paradis was.
Realising this fact, Viktor suddenly felt that many of the things Scarlett needed to address were being pushed to the back of her mind. Each day she stayed here, she moved further away from her dreams and plans. He suppressed these thoughts and reached out his hand to Scarlett.
As he held her hand and they walked, Scarlett asked, “Are we going to see the sea?”
“Yes, let’s board the ship.”
Scarlett took Viktor’s hand and climbed into the carriage.
The carriage ascended the hill and eventually stopped in front of the forest of pine trees that Scarlett had been curious about.
I fell in love with this book when it was still ongoing and read it during COVID, anticipating each chapter’s release. I’ve been translating this book since 2020! I put a lot of time and effort over the years, hours on end manually translating and typing, and comparing with the original book so that my nuances are right, so that my translations are good (five years coming for TIDK).
Thank you so much for reading!! 💖 If you’re interested in reading ahead, you can support me by tipping me on Ko-fi, or subscribing (over 200+ chapters). I’m a solo translator for about 7 years now, and operate all the projects here by myself. I’ve had ups and downs over the years, and 2025 hit hard (both in my personal and professional life). I’d really appreciate your support—it motivates me! <3
I run this site ad-free, and these translations are kept alive out of my love for reading and sharing quality translations with you. Every bit of support helps with hosting, server, and domain costs. Thank you so much for keeping this project going!
