190 – You’re Hopeless, Viktor

Scarlett reached out her hand.

In response, Viktor replied, “Later.”

“Later, when?”

“When you get pregnant.”

//Um, Sir?! O__O

“What?”

“You came to me with your memory lost and asked me to hold you, just like you always did during our marriage. So, when you have my child, I’ll give it to you then.”

Scarlett stared at him, speechless, her gaze piercing through him. As she listened to his words, she pitied her past self for believing that he would have acted chivalrously even when she lost her memory. Scarlett swayed slightly and gripped Viktor’s desk with both hands, standing her ground. Even though she seemed on the verge of collapsing, Viktor remained unmoved.

With trembling hands, Scarlett picked up a letter opener from his desk. She had heard that Isaac had used this to cut Lord Dumfelt’s finger. His heart wouldn’t carry even a single scar from it. Not that such a thing was probably present within Viktor Dumfelt.

She wanted trauma, even a minuscule wound, to remain on him. Clutching the letter opener, she walked towards Viktor.

Then Viktor spoke again.

“With your strength, even stabbing with this won’t kill me. I’m too numb for that.”

“…”

It was dizzying.

For a while, Scarlett stood still, not moving an inch. After some time, she lowered the knife onto the table.

“Now I’m certain. You’re hopeless.”

//TnT NUUU

She looked directly into Viktor’s face. As her anger intensified, strangely, her trembling disappeared.

“Fine. I won’t be angry. Pouring my emotions onto you is meaningless, after all. You will never understand things like love, at least not until you die. You can’t live as a normal human being.”

Viktor remained expressionless, silent for a while as Scarlett continued to speak.

“And… even if I have your child, I won’t give birth to it. Could I ever love a child who resembles trash like you? I would come to hate it just as much as I hate you. If I give in to anger with someone like you, I always end up feeling like I’m the crazy one. But it’s not me who’s truly insane; it’s you.”

//That’s too harsh TT

With her frustration mounting and no change in his expression, she felt as if, as always, she was the only one who had gone mad. The truly irrational one here was that man.

Scarlett turned around and left the observatory.

Scarlett stood outside the observatory, clenching her fists to contain her anger. Finally, unable to hold back any longer, she yelled, “Ah, I’m so mad!”

The naval officers turned around in surprise, but they knew who she was, so no one approached her.

Scarlett, still unable to control her frustration, tried to pick up a stone from the ground and throw it towards where Viktor was, but she missed it, and it fell short. Despite attempting the same thing repeatedly, she lacked the strength. Instead, it only left her feeling exhausted, unable to make the stone reach its target.

She gave up at that point, but she still felt the need to vent her emotions one last time. She looked towards the observatory.

She realised, more than the people who exist in reality, what was more important to him was his reputation. The man who valued honour over everything else, who could have easily been caught if he had reached out just a bit, but who refused to bend his pride.

“Son of a bitch! You bastard! Viktor Dumfelt! You!”

Was there any way to torment him more effectively than yelling loudly where others could hear? He was the one who imprisoned Marina Dumfelt in the monastery without even informing his most trusted subordinate, just to conceal his mother’s madness.

“You’ll live like that for the rest of your life! Clueless about what’s good or bad until you die, just keep living like that! I’m going to live my life my way, and you live your disgusting life, yours!”

Scarlett’s outburst left her so heated that she felt like she might collapse right there. She sat down, struggling to catch her breath.

Even though she hadn’t fully regained her composure, Scarlett forced herself to stand up with all the strength she could muster.

Her past moments of being suffocated by such a human for such a long time used to feel wasted, but she had decided not to consider them as such anymore.

During the time she loved him, she couldn’t claim she was unhappy. Even she found moments of happiness in loving Viktor Dumfelt. As Andrei had once said, searching for four-leaf clovers for him had been her joy and understanding of the love she wanted in return.

Now, she was determined to break free from him.

I fell in love with this book when it was still ongoing and read it during COVID, anticipating each chapter’s release. I’ve been translating this book since 2020! I put a lot of time and effort over the years, hours on end manually translating and typing, and comparing with the original book so that my nuances are right, so that my translations are good (five years coming for TIDK).

Thank you so much for reading!! 💖 If you’re interested in reading ahead, you can support me by tipping me on Ko-fi, or subscribing (over 200+ chapters). I’m a solo translator for about 7 years now, and operate all the projects here by myself. I’ve had ups and downs over the years, and 2025 hit hard (both in my personal and professional life). I’d really appreciate your support—it motivates me! <3
