[TIDK] 141 – Not That Kind Of Person

Did he always show such intense lust towards his partner in bed? Scarlett pondered the matter silently. At least, it had never happened during the two years she was married to him.

Perhaps the ghosts roaming these hills really had been holding him down, and there had been this beastly side to him from the beginning.

Scarlett felt a bit wary. Viktor began speaking again earnestly while holding her gaze.

“Scarlett, I have killed people. Many, at that.”

“…”

“And you still think I’m a moral person?”

Scarlett’s trembling stopped. Her fine brows narrowed.

“What are you talking about? If it weren’t for you, there would still be pirates roaming the waters off the coast of Salantier.”

Thinking that Viktor Dumfelt was selfish and denigrating his achievements were two entirely different matters.

Scarlett pushed Viktor away when he paused for a moment and sat up. Then she squared her drooping shoulders and met his eyes again.

“I don’t know anything about morals, but I don’t believe you would treat me badly just because I don’t remember you.”

“Why?”

“Because you still don’t blame me.”

“…”

“If I was in your position, I would have blamed me for betraying you and then getting amnesia all along. But you didn’t do that.”

Scarlett’s reply was firm.

Abel Crimson always made up a reason to abuse Scarlett. He was wicked, but rarely used violence against Scarlett. Of course, it was an insult to compare Viktor with some as dishonourable as Abel. Scarlett had faith in Viktor.

Whether he loved her or not, he had provided for Salantier’s safety and ensured that the people could sleep soundly. That was enough.

She turned around and started looking for a dressing gown when she heard Viktor’s low voice behind her.

“Then you’ll be disappointed.”

Scarlett turned back to face Viktor.

He had a complex expression. She looked away again quickly and tried to shake off the tension by changing the topic.

“I’m going to have breakfast here. That’s fine, right?

“…Yes.”

Viktor rang the bell for the servants to prepare their meal.

Scarlett tried to lift herself up from the bed, but her legs shook too much and she had to sit back down. Viktor walked over again and reached out to her. Scarlett put her hand in his, and Viktor’s other arm wrapped around her waist. He helped her stand and walk over to the table. Holding her with one arm, he pulled out the chair with the other hand and sat Scarlett down.

The meal began after Viktor sat down opposite of her. Scarlett began to eat the pie with her bare hands.

Thanks to the morning sun, they both began to come back to their senses. As Viktor returned to his usual gentlemanly self, Scarlett also could afford to look back on the situation with a clear head. Remembering how she sloppily seduced Viktor the night before, she was terribly embarrassed. It felt like she had a fever at the back of her neck.

Last night, she felt like she really had something in her head. Late at night, a man with strange eyes and a body that seemed to have been made by the God of Beauty lay next to her, and his body heated hers.

She tried to dispel the steamy memories that kept popping into her head during the meal.

After eating breakfast together without speaking, Scarlett was ready to leave. Viktor broke the silence first.

“I’m going to the embassy anyway, so let’s go together.”

Scarlett looked at Viktor briefly and then nodded.

“Yes.”

Her stiff reply elicited a chuckle from Viktor. When they reached the carriage outside, he extended his hand. Scarlett stepped up the stairs in front of the carriage with her hand on his.

After she had been dropped off at home and watched the carriage depart, Scarlett involuntarily wrapped her hands around her neck where Victor had previously touched her.

‘It’s strange.’

The lingering pressure was greater when he was touching her neck ever so lightly than when he was handling her roughly the night before.

After seeing him at night, Scarlett was convinced that he was truly a beast, but in the morning he was back to his old self. She didn’t necessarily want to end their current relationship, but it was chilling as if the situation was entirely in Viktor’s hands.

‘There’s no way. He’s not really that kind of person.’

Scarlett kept repeating this thought in her head. The tension and the little fear she had felt was directed towards whoever had to face someone like that beast she saw last night.

And so she shrugged off the odd pressure by thinking about it as someone else’s problem.
