[TTH] 30 – ⚝ Zinon's perspective: I've been patient for two years while dealing with a lady who requires a lot of effort. ⚝ (2)

With a sigh, I exhale.

I’ve lost count of how often I’ve tried to interrupt and stop her.

But I knew it would probably be futile no matter what I said.

Unless I enrol in the magic academy, kick the so-called otome game heroine that Richeli mentioned, and overturn everything right in front of her, I probably can’t erase Richeli’s anxiety.

I’ve been waiting to eradicate the cause from its roots.

But two years is a long time.

With another sigh, I exhale.

The same reason I decided to drink Majiram is to prevent myself from losing control and bedding her.

It’s better not to bed her if that will make her anxious.

“Um... Your Highness.”

At the whisper of little Abigail, I lift my head. Her young grass-coloured eyes stare at me intently, silently asking me to understand something.

I casually stand up from my seat, and Abigail follows behind me.

“What’s up, Abby?”

When we reached the rose garden away from the tea table, Abigail walked in front of me and whispered.

“Your Highness, um... It seems like I smell that scent again, just a little.”

Startled, I open my eyes wide and instinctively lower myself to Abigail’s eye level.

My eyes widened in surprise, and I instinctively dropped to Abby’s eye level.

“Really, Abby?”

“... It’s very faint, and I’m not confident. But you told me to always tell you if I smelled the same scent again...”

“Right... Thank you, Abby.”

Abby possesses earth magic, primarily used to grow plants. She has a notable compatibility with fairies and, more importantly, a rare talent to sense subtle changes in the scent of flowers. A casual remark by Abby connected the dots in my mind a year ago.

One of those dots was connected to Richeli’s diary.

A little after Rin had reincarnated and settled in this world two years ago, Richeli’s incessant worries stemmed from the so-called otome game that seemed to connect Rin and Richeli.

Although I was more sceptical then, I recalled Richeli’s diary, which Rin often read openly.

One night, as I heard Richeli’s sleeping breaths, I summoned the diary with magic.

Thinking I would never see my childhood friend Richeli again made me feel the eternal absence of a twin or perhaps a similar spirit.

The words written in Richeli’s diary turned into golden light, and sentences floated up and flowed in the space of my room.

Ignoring the numerous parts that made me want to retort, was there any clue I should know?

Staring at the golden letters flowing in the space, tracing them with my fingers, I suddenly held my breath and stopped my hand.

Every movement of my body completely halted.

My gaze was locked onto a single point, immobilised.

After a while, my shoulder moved.

“Hmm... I see...”

I narrowed my eyes.

When I opened the bedroom window and looked up, I could see the yellow, peach, colour of the moon floating in the night sky.

A laugh bubbled up.

Really, she... is a persistent one.

***

The Baroness Berkeley stayed at the Morgan residence until quite late. Although initially she was supposed to return by carriage, Patrick offered to teleport her back to the dormitory since he was heading home.

“No, that’s too much. I feel bad enough being offered a carriage ride.”

“It’s fine by me. You just arrived in the capital this morning, right? You must be tired, so you should get back and rest.”

Wrapping his arm around the waist of the overly humble Baroness Berkeley, he told her to hold tight and disappeared instantly.

Axel broke the ensuing silence left behind with a delighted laugh.

“Oh, it’s rare to see Patrick like that. Maybe those two will get together?”

“Really?? You think so?”

Richeli, seizing on Axel's words.

“Well, that girl seemed pretty dazed when Patrick held her. He’s a sinful man, considering he has Ellie.”

“What if love blossoms? They might even break off the engagement.” At Julian’s words, Richeli’s eyes sparkled in agreement.

“Eh~? Stop it. I don’t want Ellie turning to me if the engagement breaks off. Maybe I should interfere.”

“Hee~? And end up in a love triangle?” Richeli laughed nonsensically, clutching her cheeks. I grabbed her arm, having had enough, and pulled her up.

With a huff, I teleported to Richeli’s room and promptly pushed her onto the bed.

“Wha... Zinon!”

Richeli, looked up at me with her peachy-yellow eyes wide open. She was soft and always smelt like flowers.

“What? I warned you this morning, didn’t we learn this in today's lecture?”

“Wha, wha, what are you doing?”

Richeli, staring up at me, turning bright red and flustered, really couldn’t take a hint.

“Don’t worry, I won’t just rush in. Try saying the steps for magical replenishment, starting with the lightest.”

“Eh, eh, eh, holding hands?”

“What’s next?”

“Hugging...”

“Next.”

“Touching foreheads.”

“What’s after that?”

“Ki, ki, kiss...”

I pulled Richeli close, intertwined our fingers, and touched our foreheads.

“What’s next? Stick out your tongue.”
