107 – Torture, If You Must
Evan hurriedly smiled at his gaze and said.
“Pretend you didn’t hear it. I’ll beat him up.”
Evan said and kicked Pallin out the door and then closed it.
“Don’t even mention anything related to the young madame. If you want to keep your life that is.”
Evan said as Pallin rubbed the back of his thigh that had been kicked.
“But I have to tell you something.”
“You’ll be ruined by that mouth of yours one day.”
Evan dragged Pallin away quickly, pinching him.
The royal police forced Hylum Pitt, or Andrei, who belonged to a weak family, into becoming a spy. Then, when they were caught, they pretended that they had never sent him.
Andrei fell out of and into consciousness several times before coming to his senses.
He only now realised that the gentleman of the Dumfelt family he had seen while undercover was an illusion. He was the Viktor Dumfelt that made even the vicious pirates tremble in fear. He could not be a normal human being.
“I feel sorry for the boss.”
Thinking about it made him laugh again. He knew that Viktor Dumfelt would get angrier if he laughed, but he couldn’t stop.
He recalled the day Scarlett was questioned at the Royal Police headquarters.
The royal police forced Hylum Pitt, a member of a noble family, into becoming a spy for them, changing to Andrei. When they were caught, the police denied any involvement and pretended to be innocent. Andrei passed out a few times before regaining consciousness. He finally realised that the gentleman he had seen in Dumfelt Mansion during his time as a spy was a figment of his imagination. After all, who could make even the most ruthless pirates tremble if not Viktor Dumfelt? He thought to himself that only their boss was pitiable. He laughed again, knowing that Viktor Dumfelt would be even more furious if he laughed. He then remembered the time when Scarlett was receiving her assignment at the Royal Police Headquarters.
Yuli Irene, inheriting the physique and temperament of the Irene family, banged the table with his fist, saying, “We still have not found anything from Mrs Scarlett.” Royal police officer, Hughan Hunter, spoke with difficulty, “We are also investigating, but we don’t think she will talk easily, Your Majesty.”
Yuli Irene pushed Hughan aside and looked into the interrogation room. “A woman who would sacrifice her life for her own husband. Doesn’t she care about the government or anything?” Scarlett Crimson was so beautiful that it was excessive, but Yuli thought that if he had married her, he would have left the government for her. Nevertheless, she was a woman who aroused desire. Yuli looked at Scarlett without hiding his desire. Above all, he liked the fact that she was Viktor’s wife. Even though the two of them had entered into a marriage of convenience, it was a different matter to steal a lover than to steal a wife. When Yuli took Nina Hunter away, Viktor did not react strongly. He thought it was dull. He wondered if he would have the same expression even if he took away his wife, who was sitting there with her cold face. Scarlett turned her head towards Yuli, as if she knew he was looking at her with lustful eyes. She stared at him without greeting him, and Hughan tried to explain, “It’s because she’s under the influence of drugs.”
“Torture if you must.”
“I was going to do it anyway.”
It was unthinkable for the royal police, who followed the commands of the royal family, to torture someone. However, they had many herbs obtained from the pirate island, and among them was a poisonous substance. For the next few days, Hughan tried to get Scarlett to talk by alternating between the poison and the antidote. However, when Scarlett refused to speak, they eventually called Andrei, who worked for Dumfelt.
As a spy, Andrei had many restrictions on his movements, and he complained, “If nothing comes out after all this, then isn’t it safe to say that Viktor Dumfelt has no weaknesses?”
To which his boss Hughan replied, “But we’ve come this far, we need to get something out of her.”
Andrei stood at a distance and watched Scarlett shivering in the corner of the underground prison of the Royal Police Headquarters. Hughan said, “It’s worse than I thought.”
“Yeah, I didn’t see it that way.”
“How was she usually?” Hughan asked.
“Well, she giggles around Viktor Dumfelt all the time, poor girl,” Andrei replied.
“Is she not right in the head? How could she have been in love with him all this time and not betrayed him?”
Andrei didn’t feel right and walked outside for a moment. Then Hughan called out, “This time, we have to promote you to 2nd rank.”
I fell in love with this book when it was still ongoing and read it during COVID, anticipating each chapter’s release. I’ve been translating this book since 2020! I put a lot of time and effort over the years, hours on end manually translating and typing, and comparing with the original book so that my nuances are right, so that my translations are good (five years coming for TIDK).
Thank you so much for reading!! 💖 If you’re interested in reading ahead, you can support me by tipping me on Ko-fi, or subscribing (over 200+ chapters). I’m a solo translator for about 7 years now, and operate all the projects here by myself. I’ve had ups and downs over the years, and 2025 hit hard (both in my personal and professional life). I’d really appreciate your support—it motivates me! <3
I run this site ad-free, and these translations are kept alive out of my love for reading and sharing quality translations with you. Every bit of support helps with hosting, server, and domain costs. Thank you so much for keeping this project going!
