[TIDK] 78 – Suffocation

“What? Why?”

“Because I have no knowledge of women’s belongings. To clean up.”

“Oh.”

Nina answered as if she understood, but there was curiosity on her face. Next to him, Hughan spoke nonchalantly.

“I’ve never seen Miss Scarlett before.”

“Let’s go in.”

Viktor turned and headed for the drawing room. Then Hughan said to his sister Nina.

“Don’t respond to what I say.”

“Are you sure? The royal police have been digging up his weaknesses, so he hasn’t been able to enter the royal family.”

“You’re too nosy,” Hughan grumbled and moved on.

In the meantime, Blythe spoke with Scarlett. “Ma’am the children of the Hunters are here.”

“Yes, I saw them getting off the carriage earlier. Can I sneak out?”

“Well, the Master already asked me to prepare four seats.”

Candice said before Scarlett could react. “Madame, you have to choose your dress first.”

“Let’s go out and greet first.”

“No, they came here suddenly, so they must wait.”

Despite Scarlett’s intentions, Candice called for all the servants in the mansion. All the maids gathered around and made a fuss.

“In a situation like this, you must dominate in appearance.”

Scarlett then asked with a somewhat unconvinced look. “At the meeting of your ex-husband’s ex-girlfriend?”

“Yes, I suppose that’s what it is.”

Similar to how Scarlett would read the love affairs of actors in the newspaper, the servants seemed to find entertainment in the complex relationships of their employers.

Scarlett wore a red velvet dress, the same colour as her eyes and a thick white shawl around her.

She closed her eyes briefly in front of the drawing-room door and collected herself.

The people here were those who had learned social etiquette from their parents’ tutors from birth. Scarlett was always afraid to enter such a place. She was worried about making mistakes.

She briefly recalled the parties she attended during her marriage to Viktor.

The husband, who at that time was far away, had observed her with his own eyes.

And at some point, he had come to her and whispered in her ear like whispering words of love.

He had wrapped one arm around her waist. “Raise your head; my wife does not avoid the gazes of others.”

He didn’t understand Scarlett’s rooted fear.

It was good that she didn’t have to do this after she divorced.

Scarlett, now calmer than before, straightened her back, raised her chin and told Blythe.

“I’m coming in.”

Blythe bowed, hearing her, and knocked. “Milady is here.”

The door was opened.

Scarlett, determined not to be intimidated, saw Viktor first. Her gaze passed onto Nina and then she found her brother next to him.

When her eyes met with Hughan Hunter, who wore the royal police’s uniform, she collapsed.

“Madame!”

The maids in the hallway rushed to help her. Scarlett couldn’t breathe properly; she was suffocating.

‘Don’t make a mistake. If I make a mistake….’

The thought was repeated, but she couldn’t collect her mind. She couldn’t figure out why she was doing this.

She had never seen him before, but she couldn’t breathe upon making eye contact with such a strange man.

She was trembling when she heard Viktor’s voice.

“Doctor!”

“Yes, Master.”

Scarlett gasped out of breath, and Viktor took her into the guest bedroom upstairs. It was the room with the shortest distance from where they were.

Scarlett scratched the bedding with her hand and cried in pain. Tears dripped from her eyes, but she couldn’t figure out why.

Viktor first tore the dress cut to fit her body with his hands. And after yelling at everyone to leave, he wrapped her in the quilt and hugged her tightly.
