175 – Viktor’s Twisted Hope

“S-suddenly, what are you saying?”

“Have my child. Right now. We need a child.”

If she found out, the walls of Scarlett’s heart, already fragile, would become even stronger. Perhaps she wouldn’t even look at him again. Even the smouldering ember of affection might be extinguished.

If he could have just had her sit next to him, he could have ignored everything happening outside the mansion. He would have taken her lost memory and made her have a child. And then he would have taken her and left for Vestina.

His young days when he had wanted to become royalty of such a country had been nothing but brainwashing. It had been his mother’s brainwashing and the world’s brainwashing that had blamed the banished princess.

As he hastily undid his tie and unbuttoned his shirt, the usually laid-back man looked at Viktor with widened Scarlett eyes.

“Why are you suddenly like this, really,” she said.

“Don’t you like it?”

“No. I don’t dislike it. But everyone said it wasn’t okay before your twentieth birthday. If you got pregnant before your twentieth birthday, the child might not be healthy,” she had explained.

He had been too hasty to even notice that there was an issue with what Scarlett had just said. Viktor, in his impatience, had even used a somewhat rough touch to grasp her leg and pull her towards him. Scarlett, with a startled expression, shouted, “Viktor, calm down!”

Scarlett had never seen Viktor lose his composure, even once before. She had never seen him anxious or impatient. Scarlett, who clearly felt that there was a problem with Viktor’s current state, fiercely slapped Viktor’s arm as he tore apart the garter belt secured on her stockings.

“Calm down!”

Only then did Viktor’s hand stop.

He clenched the torn garter belt tightly in his hand.

With her knees on the bed, Scarlett sat down and gently touched the cheeks of Viktor, who had wandered the drought-ridden desert like a restless beast, with her fingertips.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but tell me. I’m always here, so what’s the rush?”

Saying that she looked at him earnestly and smiled bashfully.

“I’m fine with it too.”

“……”

“It’s about you and me having a child. I’m fine with it anytime. I’ll be happy anytime.”

Viktor’s grip loosened in the voice that overflowed with love, like honey flowing. He wrapped his trembling hand around Scarlett’s cheek and kissed her, causing her to fall onto the bed. Scarlett didn’t push him away any longer.

Forgiveness for this would likely be impossible. But who cared?

He thought about making Scarlett take the potion again, completely erasing her memories of reality. Even if it meant doing that, he didn’t care as long as he could have her by his side.

After that, he had to let her know. Living as his wife meant she didn’t have to smile at things she didn’t want to smile at.

If anyone forced her to smile, even if it was himself, he would put an end to them.

Perhaps because of the shock of being taken by the pirates, Scarlett did not return to normal for several days after that.

Humans tend to adapt to any side of life once it becomes routine. As Scarlett’s condition stabilised in the wrong direction, Viktor also found stability.

Entering his house, Pallin spoke restlessly.

“You shouldn’t do this, Captain.”

“What can’t I do?”

“Anything. All that you’re saying you wish to do. What if Scarlett finds her memory again? Why are you doing this?”

“Because I want to have a child.”

“…Really?”

“Then she won’t leave.”

Viktor casually replied.

“Anyway, Scarlett doesn’t remember the current situation. She’ll think she wanted to have a child. If that’s the case, that kind-hearted woman won’t leave the child’s father.”

“Captain!”

Ignoring the words of Pallin, Viktor headed towards Scarlett.

Perhaps for quite a while, he thought Scarlett might continue to lose her memory like this. If that were the case, he thought it wouldn’t be too bad.

By going back and forth like this, she would eventually be by his side. She would bear his child, and with that child as leverage, he could weaken her heart as much as he wanted.

He knew better than anyone how horrifying his current thoughts would feel to Scarlett. But even so, he couldn’t control himself.

When Viktor opened the bedroom door, he saw Scarlett’s pale face behind it.

Viktor looked at her and then spoke.

“Scarlett.”

“What happened? Did I just faint? Or did I forget that we divorced again?”

“This time, you forgot for quite a while.”

At Viktor’s words, Scarlett sighed with a complicated expression.

“Why does this happen….”

“Right now, that’s not the issue. You were kidnapped.”

“I know. I remember that.”

“Sit down again. Let me check your wounds.”

“Okay…”

Scarlett nodded her head. Viktor approached and examined the wounds on her neck and hand, then clicked his tongue.

I fell in love with this book when it was still ongoing and read it during COVID, anticipating each chapter’s release. I’ve been translating this book since 2020! I put a lot of time and effort over the years, hours on end manually translating and typing, and comparing with the original book so that my nuances are right, so that my translations are good (five years coming for TIDK).

Thank you so much for reading!! 💖 If you’re interested in reading ahead, you can support me by tipping me on Ko-fi, or subscribing (over 200+ chapters). I’m a solo translator for about 7 years now, and operate all the projects here by myself. I’ve had ups and downs over the years, and 2025 hit hard (both in my personal and professional life). I’d really appreciate your support—it motivates me! <3
