171 – His Gun To The Officer’s Head
“Senators are permitted to enter the Royal Police Headquarters.”
“I might have the right to enter, but do you… Wait, do you actually have the authority to enter?”
“I thought I’d try the legal way for now.”
“You’re using me as a shield to make yourself comfortable.”
“You know me well.”
Larry sighed at Viktor’s nonchalant response. The concept of friendship among aristocrats was rather thin. It was mostly a political alliance, and the son of an exiled royal princess held limited advantages in such relationships.
However, Larry’s father had a broad vision and an eye for people. Upon first seeing ten-year-old Viktor, he told his son, the heir to the Holton family,
“Don’t underestimate Viktor Dumfelt. He’s not someone to be taken lightly. But don’t get too close or too distant either.”
Larry’s father had been correct. Viktor was someone who wasn’t meant to be either too close or too distant. Larry grumbled,
“…Fine, I’ll go. But we’re not supposed to be used like this. We’re worth more.”
Larry reluctantly took the lead.
“Thanks for dealing with the pirates, but why did you put me in this kind of danger?”
Larry’s words were tinged with annoyance due to Viktor’s influence. He displayed a silver butterfly brooch to the general police guarding the entrance, proving his status as a Senator.
“We’re going in.”
“Yes, Senator.”
Unexpectedly, the police saluted, and with a tired expression, Larry gestured for Viktor to follow. He continued speaking as they walked,
“Why are you even here?”
“I think the Royal Police are attempting to harm my ex-wife.”
“What?”
Larry stopped abruptly and bent over, laughing.
“That doesn’t make sense. Someone’s dared to touch Viktor Dumfelt’s ex-wife.”
“I don’t know; that’s why I want to investigate.”
“You’re trying to catch a living person.”
“There was a Royal Police officer near my ex-wife.”
“…That does sound suspicious.”
“And all those pictures of her and her residence were in newspaper ads.”
“What?”
Larry’s expression turned graver.
Larry’s expression grew more serious. It seemed this was no light matter to get involved in.
Eventually, they arrived at the entrance of the Royal Police Headquarters. Larry entered first, and as Viktor attempted to follow, the Royal Police halted him.
“You’re not permitted to enter.”
Larry intervened, “Viktor Dumfelt has true royal lineage, and it’s odd that I can enter while Viktor cannot.”
“Higher authority…”
Viktor’s gun touched the Royal Police officer’s forehead. Viktor’s brows furrowed.
“Turn around.”
As the Royal Police officer turned pale, Viktor gently pushed the back of his head with the gun.
“I’d like to meet the Royal Police officer who questioned my ex-wife.”
With those words, the Royal Police officer muttered curses and quickly turned around, rushing at Viktor. However, Viktor easily overpowered the Royal Police, treating them like children. He grabbed their necks and slammed them against the wall.
“Argh!”
As the Royal Police officer’s screams echoed, Larry leaned over to observe the scene.
“Are you okay? Damn it, I wouldn’t have followed you if I knew this was going to happen…”
Meanwhile, more Royal Police officers rushed toward Viktor, but he was swift in his actions. One officer was shot by Viktor’s gun and collapsed, clutching his arm.
Larry lamented, grasping his hair with both hands,
“My father was right. I shouldn’t have been so friendly with you.”
“When were you ever friendly?”
Larry retorted as Viktor steadied himself, pointing his gun at a Royal Police officer who had raised his hands.
“I’ve been plenty friendly! And put that gun down!”
In the meantime, a second-level Royal Police officer approached.
“Hey! I’ll guide you!”
“Thank you.”
Only then did Viktor respond in a dignified manner that contrasted with the situation?
As they entered the main building, they encountered Royal Police officers casually chatting over tea as though attending a social event. Upon spotting Viktor, they froze in their tracks.
Larry looked around and followed, saying,
“If you’ve dragged me into this mess, you owe me an explanation.”
“Now that your task is done, you can head back.”
“I can manage to extract myself from this situation quite naturally. The Holton family is already in the wrong. I might lose, but I’ll share my good fortune with the Dumfelt family now! Aren’t you treating a mere citizen like me rather poorly?”
“If a member of the Senate is called a mere citizen what does that make the rest of us?”
“Other mere citizens, not Senators!”
Viktor chuckled at Larry’s straightforward response. This peculiar character of his made Viktor regard Larry Holton as a friend. But he was too apprehensive about engaging in any major endeavours together. Seeing Larry’s constant timidity, Viktor wondered if he should have enlisted Andrei, who at least had insights into the inner workings of the Royal Police. However, Viktor didn’t particularly like him.
I fell in love with this book when it was still ongoing and read it during COVID, anticipating each chapter’s release. I’ve been translating this book since 2020! I put a lot of time and effort over the years, hours on end manually translating and typing, and comparing with the original book so that my nuances are right, so that my translations are good (five years coming for TIDK).
Thank you so much for reading!! 💖 If you’re interested in reading ahead, you can support me by tipping me on Ko-fi, or subscribing (over 200+ chapters). I’m a solo translator for about 7 years now, and operate all the projects here by myself. I’ve had ups and downs over the years, and 2025 hit hard (both in my personal and professional life). I’d really appreciate your support—it motivates me! <3
I run this site ad-free, and these translations are kept alive out of my love for reading and sharing quality translations with you. Every bit of support helps with hosting, server, and domain costs. Thank you so much for keeping this project going!
