4 - Grand Duke Deuwin

Ben Haber. A competent aide of the war mogul Deuwin, who was renowned for constantly changing his aides after inheriting the Grand Duchy.

Most of the aides could not satisfy Deuwin’s meticulousness.

Ben was the aide that Deuwin settled down with.

Having never passed someone for more than three months, the fact that Ben was with him over ten years and counting went to show how competent he was.

Therefore, Ben was popular among the nobles. There was even a line of people who wanted to be introduced to him as an outstanding aide.

In fact, Ben’s ability to handle work was excellent. Even if he was in charge of challenging tasks, he handled them skillfully.

-Save for the times Deuwin was stubborn as he was now.

“Are you really going to go in that outfit?”

“Yeah. It’s weird that you have to wear a white uniform because you’re going to the temple. I’m the most formal I’ve ever been now.” Deuwin said, dressed in formal armour he waged war in.

When Deuwin said it that way, Ben could not refute it. But he thumbed the tip of his chin, clearly troubled.

Deuwin’s outfit was not appropriate for temple events because the attire was ‘white’. The only reason Deuwin wore his armour was that he knew that and was hostile to the temple.

Their relationship was indeed antipathetic; it was the source of much gossip that circulated social parties.

That was why Ben was even more concerned that if Deuwin wore it, his relationship with the temple would be irreversible.

“Your excellency, if that’s the case, I’ll pack some clothes… jokes.” Ben tried to suggest taking clothes separately, but when he saw Deuwin’s cold gaze returning to him, he hurriedly swallowed his words.

Deuwin was born to dominate. His physique was significantly larger than the average person, and his unique clear eyes overwhelmed the surroundings even if he stayed still.

No matter how much he faced it, he still couldn’t get used to it.

Ben’s mouth constantly itched whenever he made eye contact with Deuwin for the past ten years.

“Okay. Then let’s go.”

“What about the kids?”

“They’re waiting on the first floor.”

Deuwin’s green eyes glinted before that light disappeared under his drowsy eyelids.

His eyes were beautiful when they shone, but very few people saw them. A person would be overwhelmed in fear, terrified before they could even make eye contact with him.

Most avoided Deuwin’s gaze and were reluctant to make eye contact.

“Go down.”

Deuwin elegantly went down the stairs with neat movements.

When he arrived on the first floor, his twins Dennis and Judy jumped up from playing on the sofa to welcome him.

“Father! Are you leaving now?”

“Yes.”

Deuwin casually looked at the twins alternately.

Even if they were twins, the atmosphere between the two was clearly different.

Even those who saw them for the first time could easily distinguish the two. Just by looking at the outfit they were currently wearing, it would be easy.

Dennis’s ironed, neat clothes were flawless. The books and glasses in his hand created an air of intelligence.

However, Judy’s clothes were covered with dirt from where she rolled from. Her shirt button was incorrectly fastened, and her hair was ruffled.

After seeing that, Deuwin instinctively let out a sigh. “Judy... Where did you fight again?”

Judy smiled innocently at his question and raised her voice. “I had a running match with Chen a while ago. But I won.”

There was no sign of being ashamed of the messed up clothes. Instead, she proudly spread her arms and straightened her shoulders, boasting.

“Well done.” Deuwin tried to praise Judy for winning but regained his composure, recalling that it was not the time. “Before I come back, don’t cause too much of a big trouble for me.”

Deuwin spoke, his voice heavy. A gaze of warning was directed at Judy.

“Oh, can I make a small one then?”

However, Judy smiled regardless of Deuwin’s stern gaze. “Will you listen to me if I tell you not to?”

“Of course. I’ll listen to Father well.”

“Like hell you are.”

Deuwin did not expect Judy to remain obedient from the beginning.

He knew she would stir up trouble regardless, so he meant to limit it as much as possible.

“What a surprise. Considering the people who have to clean up after your mess.”

“That’s what others are supposed to do.”

“No, they’re not hired for you. I hired them for me.”

As the conversation between the two showed signs of intensifying, Dennis stepped in and mediated. “Father, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Judy.”

His eyes were trustworthy, Deuwin was still a bit miffed, but he decided to believe in Dennis’s straight answer.

“All right. Dennis, please.”

‘They’re different in many ways,’ Deuwin shook his head as he saw the two contrasting children.

Soon after, Deuwin, being seen off by the twins as he was about to leave the mansion, paused for a moment.

“I’m going to buy you a present when you come back. Tell me what you want.”

Deuwin was constantly bombarded with work and thus often away from home. Feeling sorry for not being able to be next to the children, he replaced his presence with material gifts.

Dennis thought about it for a moment and soon said his request for a book. “Buy me ‘The Voice of God’, written by former high priest Krispher. The latest edition was published, and the temple will sell it only during this event.”

Deuwin patted Dennis’ shoulder and nodded.

“Okay. Judy, what about you?”

“I want,” Judy’s eyes mischievously twinkled as if she had been waiting.

Deuwin frowned a little, thinking Judy’s eyes were too excited.

“I want a younger sister.”

And Deuwin’s ominous hunch was correct.

The air in the living room froze as if in approval of Judy’s absurd remark.
