196 – He Came To Propose
Surprised, she swallowed the liquid that came over.
After all the medicine was taken, Scarlett stood still for a moment. Then, she looked up at Viktor. The gentle strength she always felt from him was back in her eyes.
Scarlett looked around.
“…Did I come here again?”
Viktor raised the bottle of medicine.
“You won’t have to do that again. I just gave you the antidote.”
“What?”
Scarlett asked as if she couldn’t believe it.
“So, does that mean this won’t happen again?”
“Exactly.”
“That’s a relief… Ah, how long have I been like this?”
“Well…”
“Could it be…”
Viktor, realising that Scarlett’s words were about her pregnancy, dumbly responded.
“I can’t tell you that right now.”
In response, Scarlett glared at him. Then something slipped from her hand and fell to the ground. Viktor’s wedding ring was rolling on the floor after falling from her hand.
Scarlett asked, “What’s that? Why do I have it?”
“I gave it to you. The marriage is over now.”
“Why did you give it to me?”
“I have no reason to keep it.”
He said, picking up the ring and placing it back in Scarlett’s hand.
“Take it.”
There was a sense of urgency in Viktor’s voice as he said this, so Scarlett reluctantly accepted the ring. Then, as if deciding, she pushed Viktor away and left the room.
As Scarlett left, Viktor remained standing in his place, not moving for a while. He thought about the fact that Scarlett, who had just left his side, would never come back to him again.
From the day Scarlett started coming to him after forgetting the divorce, he had always worn the wedding ring on his finger, wondering if she would find it. He couldn’t take his eyes off his empty left hand, which he hadn’t seen in a long time. He wrapped his hand around his neck and slowly let go. A faint red mark was left on his neck from his hand’s pressure.
//my heart is in pain- is that last line…foreshadowing?

From the moment of his birth, Viktor Dumfelt had been given one direction.
When he let go of what he had been trying to hold onto and stopped to look around, he realised that he had already deviated from the trajectory for a long time. After realising this, he stood in place, contemplating what he should do next. After some time, he heard Blythe’s voice from outside the door.
“Milord, should I prepare the meal?”
Viktor glanced towards the door, but he didn’t answer or move.
The servants who never defied him didn’t call out to him anymore when they received no response from Viktor. In this world, there was only one person who would open that door and come in even if he didn’t answer – Scarlett.
Realising this, he finally remembered what he needed to do. With an unassuming voice, Viktor addressed the servant outside the door.
“Convey to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. I accept the invitation.”
“Yes, Milord.”

As the antidote took effect, Scarlett began to sequentially recall the events that had occurred during the time she had lost her memory.
“He came to propose.”
“Propose… you say?”
“Yeah. He came to propose.”
Those memories were painful, and she wiped away the tears that welled up with the back of her hand before running towards the tram station.
“It would be nice if you accepted.”
Hoping that his voice would just vanish into the wind and disappear, Scarlett ran in a frenzy.
“Forget. I need to forget. I must forget.”
She repeated to herself countless times.
Fortunately, the tram arrived shortly. Sitting on the nearly empty tram as people sought refuge or stayed indoors due to the circumstances in the capital, Scarlett sobbed quietly.
“Your husband.”
It felt like her chest was shattering into pieces. Only now did she realise that she had never truly confronted sorrow in her life. Even after her parents had passed away, she had forced herself to hide her grief. But now, in this place, she was facing it all. And as she did, all the suppressed sorrows began to pour out.
“What did that man say? Why is he making me so sad? Why, after reaching a moment where he won’t be forgiven, did he choose to propose that I won’t remember? Why.”
She let out the cries she had held since she was twelve.
Amidst this turmoil, the thought of arriving at the Crimson Estate soon helped Scarlett regain her composure. As she did, more and more memories flooded her mind. She recalled how he had treated her, the actions he had taken towards her every time she had visited him after the divorce, and even memories from her time at the Royal Police Headquarters that she had forgotten.
I fell in love with this book when it was still ongoing and read it during COVID, anticipating each chapter’s release. I’ve been translating this book since 2020! I put a lot of time and effort over the years, hours on end manually translating and typing, and comparing with the original book so that my nuances are right, so that my translations are good (five years coming for TIDK).
Thank you so much for reading!! 💖 If you’re interested in reading ahead, you can support me by tipping me on Ko-fi, or subscribing (over 200+ chapters). I’m a solo translator for about 7 years now, and operate all the projects here by myself. I’ve had ups and downs over the years, and 2025 hit hard (both in my personal and professional life). I’d really appreciate your support—it motivates me! <3
I run this site ad-free, and these translations are kept alive out of my love for reading and sharing quality translations with you. Every bit of support helps with hosting, server, and domain costs. Thank you so much for keeping this project going!
