195 – Like Love At First Sight

Scarlett nestled in Viktor’s arms then pulled away and nestled again. Now she realised how joyful dancing could be.

Viktor was about to let her go, but Scarlett shook her head.

“Just one more time. I think I can really do it well now.”

“As much as you’d like.”

He said as he took off his jacket, revealing his undershirt.

Scarlett belatedly made an embarrassed expression.

“I’m not sure if I can dance in my pyjamas.”

“It’s fine.”

“Really?”

Scarlett blushed but smiled happily. She ran back to Viktor and began dancing with him. As she practised all the dances she had learned, Viktor led her, and the dance became more ingrained in her body.

After thoroughly dancing, Scarlett smiled with joy.

“Done. Wow, I learned quickly.”

“That’s great.”

“I won’t scold you today.”

Viktor paused as he heard her muttering to herself.

“Scold me?”

“Yeah, I’m so scared of the dance teacher…”

“…Scared?”

Viktor tried to recall, and he remembered Scarlett mentioning something like that before. She was afraid of the dance teacher.

Viktor had always thought that governesses were supposed to be dreadful figures. It was because of what he had learned when he was young. However, now that he thought Scarlett might have been frightened, his expression involuntarily crumpled.

Viktor said,

“Go on.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

Surprised by his response, Scarlett quickly said,

“Then… please tell her not to hit me too often… with the switch…”

“Hit?”

“With a switch, it hurts too much.”

At Scarlett’s words, Viktor asked again,

“…The dance teacher hits you?”

“If my movements are wrong, she hits my arms or legs… I heard you learned that way too…”

Viktor managed to control the expression that was about to crumple and said,

“Alright, I’ll talk to her.”

“That’s a relief…”

Scarlett heaved a sigh of relief, then looked at Viktor and smiled again.

“Is this really the last time?”

“I told you. You can dance as much as you want.”

He said and started dancing with her again. While dancing the familiar steps, the thoughts about the dance teacher didn’t disappear from Viktor’s mind.

Come to think of it, when his father had sent her to that monastery without even consulting him. He must have been somewhat sure. He was certain that his son would be indifferent.

He had been convinced that the man, who only looked straight ahead and never noticed anything around him, wouldn’t notice anything until the end.

Realising that Viktor was lost in thought while dancing, Scarlett stopped first, then gently let go of him.

After a moment of disappointment engulfed her, her memories faded once again. Her mind turned white and returned to a clean slate. When her mind cleared again, she was in an unfamiliar place.

Scarlett stood still, facing Viktor, and looked around.

An unfamiliar space, a strange man standing in front of her. Tears welled up in her eyes in an instant. Seeing her helpless like a child, Viktor spoke.

“Evan, bring that medicine from earlier.”

As expected, Evan, who hadn’t gone far, opened the door and came in. He handed the medicine to Viktor. After he left without saying a word, Viktor held the medicine and sighed.

“Scarlett Crimson.”

“Who…?”

Scarlett looked at Viktor with a mixture of fear, curiosity, and interest.

Viktor tried to force a smile.

“Your husband.”

Scarlett flinched at his words, and Viktor continued.

“I came to propose.”

“Propose… me?”

“Yeah, to propose.”

“Why me…? You’re like a lord or something.”

At Scarlett’s words, Viktor smiled again and knelt in front of her, one knee on the ground. He slowly removed his glove, then took off the engagement ring he had been wearing on his hand. He extended his hand, and Scarlett hesitantly reached out her hand.

Viktor slid the ring onto her finger, but the ring that had fit his hand perfectly spun loosely on Scarlett’s finger.

“It would be nice if you’d accept.”

At his words, Scarlett looked at the large ring. She then looked at Viktor’s face and nodded.

Her actions made Viktor freeze.

Scarlett spoke.

“I will.”

“You’ve seen me for the first time?”

“But still…”

Scarlett laughed awkwardly.

“It’s like love at first sight.”

“…”

“Yes, marriage.”

At her response, Viktor grasped Scarlett’s hand tightly. After a while of silence, he nodded.

He stood up and said,

“I think we should kiss,” Viktor murmured.

The heat from his hand seemingly spread to hers. In fact, it was not just her hands which felt warm, her whole body seemed to melt. Perhaps it was a palpable sensation that only came with love at first sight.

“R-Right now?”

“Yes, now.”

Scarlett’s face turned red in an instant, but she soon nodded.

Viktor took the medicine in his mouth and kissed Scarlett.

I fell in love with this book when it was still ongoing and read it during COVID, anticipating each chapter’s release. I’ve been translating this book since 2020! I put a lot of time and effort over the years, hours on end manually translating and typing, and comparing with the original book so that my nuances are right, so that my translations are good (five years coming for TIDK).

Thank you so much for reading!! 💖 If you’re interested in reading ahead, you can support me by tipping me on Ko-fi, or subscribing (over 200+ chapters). I’m a solo translator for about 7 years now, and operate all the projects here by myself. I’ve had ups and downs over the years, and 2025 hit hard (both in my personal and professional life).
